Congratulations to Abbey Diffendal, The Lea Marie Faraone Foundation’s 2025 Women in Science Scholarship Winner!
Abbey plans to attend Loyola University, Maryland this coming Fall to pursue studies in biopsychology. Abbey is a true example of academic excellence as a member of four national honor societies, including those for math and science, all while balancing Honor Board, Tennis, and various internships.
Abbey strives to give back and make a difference in people’s lives, “I want my life to truly mean something, like I know Lea’s did.” Abbey took this into action by starting NDP’s first Red Cross Club and organizing the school’s first blood drive bringing in 26 life-saving donations.
In many ways similar to Lea, Abbey has first hand experience as a patient and witnessed health challenges within her family which helps her to understand the need for caring and compassionate healthcare providers.
“I unfortunately never had the opportunity to meet Lea, but I have had the privilege to learn about her story. I would be honored to carry on Lea’s legacy of being kind, bold, unapologetic, and brave. I would be honored to know that wherever my path takes me, I have Lea in my corner, living out the qualities we share. Beyond NDP, I will continue to take advantage of every opportunity, improving the lives of those around me, living life like Lea.”
